Thumbprint Design Principles

Three principles guiding how Thumbtack's design system team works, focusing on process, documentation, and collaboration.

  1. Build with a consistent process

Use toolkits to identify, prioritise, and scope work. Build only what’s essential after considering feedback, accessibility, and future use cases.

  2. Communicate and document everything

Create a shared language for designers and developers. Respond quickly to questions, communicate changes, and refine documentation for reliable results.

  3. Encourage collaboration and feedback

Encourage contributions and constructive criticism to establish trust. Spread system thinking to a diverse group to clarify what to build and what not to build.
